Let's see if a good idea can shape a country...

Let's find the new Nelson Mandelas

It's a time for new leadership - the analogue age is gone - we need leaders in a digital age.

Real leaders are required to tackles the problems of our country.

We are hoping through discussion, conversation, idea sharing, commenting and reporting - we will see new leaders rising up who will lead South Africa into a positive future.

Our dream is that our website will make this happen.

So how did we get here?

It started with one website and then another...

A few years ago we started with a website called MyPetition (www.mypetition.co.za), which was a website to allow people to create and manage their petitons online. At the time so many petitions were being distributed via e-mail - sending from one person to another, but never being collected in one central place. So we created MyPetition.co.za as a solution to this problem and to help people bring about change. The site is very busy and has thousands of signatures on hundreds of petitions.

This proved to us that South Africans are more socially and politically aware than most countries.

We then then turned our minds to the problem of crime in South Africa and created a website caled CrimeAware (www.crimeaware.co.za)

Again making use of technology, this allows people to share crime news and incidents around then, to warn residents of crime happening in their area in the hope that they will use the information to become less of a target.

Crime Aware was met with an incredible response from the South African public and we had hundreds e-mails of encouragement to develop it further.

Over a period of a few months we met with many Community Policing Forums and Neighbourhood Watches to show them the system. Everyone was excited, but they wanted some more tools to be able to manage their Networks and to communicate with their residents and members.

We did a lot of research and brainstorming, and out of that came our newest project - Turn It Around - which we feel is an incredible website with a lot of possiblility.

You can use this website to create awareness of your area and its particular problems and challenges, and to get your community involved in making your area a better place to live.

Become the leader South Africa needs.

How YOU can make a difference

Step 1 - Register on Turn It Around

Create a profile on the site - it only takes a minute.

Step 2 - Join a couple of networks

Type in your local address to search for your local neighbourhood or workplace and join a network established there. If there isn't yet a network in your area, use our simple Create a Network tool to create one in under 60 seconds.

You can join as many networks as you like. Start by joining the network where you live, the network where you work and the network where your children go to school. You will receive automatic updates and information via email and SMS from all those areas.

Step 3 - Report crimes you are aware of

The success of the site depends upon crimes being reported to local networks. You can help by reporting any crimes you are aware of during the past month.

Step 4 - Tell your friends

We need as many South Africans to participate as possible. Let your friends and family know about Turn It Around and get them to join up. The more hands we have - the lighter the load.
